Mary Sampson

White on White photographs

This limited edition series of black and white photographs is the culmination of a year's work which combined my love of gardening and photography. I have followed the seasons by gathering white flowers from my garden and photographing them against a white background in my studio. I was especially interested in catching the moment when the foreground merges into the background, the area where white touches white, evoking memory and transience.

All my photographs are traditionally printed on Art Classic paper and numbered in a limited edition of 15, each signed by the artist.

Each photograph or print is approximately 30cm square or 20 x 35cm

Cards and post cards are also available.

Mary Sampson, a Hythe based artist works in photography and other media. Initially trained as a nurse, she started painting and taking photographs as a hobby which turned into a compulsion. As a mature student, Mary obtained a degree in Fine Art from the Kent Institute of Art and Design at Canterbury. This series of photographs, capturing flowers through the seasons, was printed in her darkroom and studio at home.

In 2000-2001, Mary was awarded a Year of the Artist residency at the William Harvey Hospital, Ashford, where her photography and sculpture can be seen on permanent display.
